Note: With the Implementation of 7th Pay Commission in 2016, the Salary of ASM will be revised and the expected salary for ASM will be Rs 33000 (Approx). 

This is just a prediction and exact salary will be known, after the Govt announces the exact status of 7th Pay commission implementation

What is the Job Profile of Assistant Station Master ?

An Assistant station Master posts in Indian Railways is a Group C Non-Gazatted posts and this is a Entry Level posts in Railways.

The Job Profile of ASM is given as under

1. Assistant Station Master is in charge of Trains running at station. In short, he looks after the Trains Activity at the station
2. He is one, who gives the signals to Trains, following the rules and guidelines as Laid down
3. An ASM, will have to work in shifts, however the working schedule of 8 hours per day.

What is the Eligibility Criteria for Assistant station Master ?

1) Applicant must be an Indian Citizen

2) Age Limit: Applicants maximum age should not exceed 33 years (For General Candidates Only). However, there is age relaxation for reserved category.

Selection Process: The Selection Process for the Recruitment of Assistant Station Manager in Railways, comprises of only Written test, and it will be a Computer Based Online test.

The Written test, will have two stages : Prelims and Mains Exams

Prelims Exam: The Prelims Exam is a common Exam for all the posts. The Exam pattern comprises of 100 Objective type Questions to be completed in a composite time of 90 Minutes

1) Airthmatic Ability: 25 Marks

2) General Science: 30 Marks

3) General Intelligence 25 Marks

4) General Knowledge : 20 Marks

It is worth mentioning here that Prelims exam is only a Qualifying (Screening) Exam, and marks obtained in this exam, will have no bearing on the final merit.

Mains Exams: Successful candidates in the Prelims exam, will be called for Mains exam. For Mains Exam, candidates will be shortlisted in the ratio of 1:15 the no. of vacancies. The Mains Exam have the weightage of 70% in the final Merit

Aptitude test : Those who are successful in the Mains Exam will be called for an Aptitude test, that is Qualifying in nature. The aptitude test carries weightage of 30% in the final Merit

Final Merit : The Final Merit comprises of  Marks obtained in the Mains Exam (70%) and Aptitude test (30%) taken together.
